  • Live Music in Marbella this Summer

Marbella music fans, both locals and visitors, are being treated to some great line-ups for the summer of 2016.

Big names playing in the Marbella area this year include Simply Red, Tom Jones, Seal, Status Quo, Kaiser Chiefs, the Stereophonics, Jess Glynn, Brian Ferry, Toploader,  and the All Saints.

Simply Red have the epic pleasure of rocking the famous old Sohail Castle on the outskirts of Fuengirola on August 18th.  A great venue in this historic open roofed venue at the top of a small hill.  Enjoy a drink and take in the summer breezes while enjoying the music.

Seal is playing the famous 5* Puente Romano Beach Resort on Monday 18th July.  A very exclusive and intimate venue for a concert which takes part using the seating from the centre court of the resort’s tennis club.  A great place to enjoy cocktails and feel up close to the artist.See Simply Red in Fuengirola

The Kaiser Chiefs take to the stage in the Pozuelo Torremolinos Football Stadium on 6th August.

Tom Jones and Status Quo are part of a huge lineup playing at Marbella’s ever popular and growing Starlite Festival.  This huge event running from the 14th July through to the 20th August feature s superb lineup of artists including Robert Plant, Santana, Charles Aznavour, Il Divo, Malu and The Corrs.

These high society Marbella concerts take place in the old Quarry set into the dramatic La Concha mountain which towers over Marbella.  The whole area is converted into an open air auditorium, and excellent concert  venue complete with exclusive catering, bars and a lively late night disco.

Starlite Marbella, which started in 2012, is considered one of Europe’s greatest social events featuring not only music but also including gastronomy, disco, arts, fashion and cinema.

As usual the Gibraltar Music Festival, which takes place on the 3rd and 4th of September 2016, features a superb line up with a great mix of  acts to keep the old and young listeners happy!  The Stereophonics, All Saints, KT Tunstall, Jesse Glynne, Brian Ferry, Toploader, Rosario and the local band Frontiers are among the many bands in this years event.  Like Starlite this event has grown dramatically in the past few years moving from a single evening, single stage event to a multi day and multi stage festival.  Another great location for an open air concert with the dramatic rock of Gibraltar as the backdrop.

Summer in Marbella is a great time to go and watch a concert, with the evening temperatures superb for enjoying music outdoors in the evening breezes.  Get along and enjoy one of the many great concerts.

  • More things to do in Marbella Summer 2013

A few quick updates and additions to the things to do in Marbella this summer:

For Horse Lovers the Costa del Sol's main horse racing track, Hipodromo Costa del Sol is hosting a weekend celebrating Purebread Andalusian Horses this weekend - 23th - 25th May 2013.

For music lovers it has been announced this week that Jamie Cullum and UB40 will also be performing at the Starlite Festival.  Although separately - but it would be an entertaining mix!

Ali Campbell's multi-million record selling reggae band UB40 will be playing their great sounds on August 21st.  UB40's reggae music will be superb to chill out to, on a balmy hot evening at the Auditorium overlooking Marbella.  Their greatest hits include the likes of Red Red Wine, Rat In My Kitchen, Kingston Town, I Got You Babe and I Cant Help Falling In Love. I have had the pleasure of seeing them perform twice in the past in Oman and last year in Gibraltar, and on both occasions they have been superb.

Jamie Cullum will be the first major artist playing the festival when he takes to the stage on 27th July.  The famous English jazz musician will be playing his hits like All At Sea, Everlasting Love and Frontin.  Another great genre of music to chill out to this summer in Marbella.

And finally for lovers of luxury the Marbella Luxury Weekend, highlighting great food, drinks, cars, boats, etc will be taking place this year in Puerto Banus (where else!) from 30th May until the 2nd June 2013.

  • Simple Minds at the Marbella Starlite Festival

The Starlite Lounge at the Marbella Starlite FestivalWe enjoyed a great evening at the Marbella Auditorium last Thursday night, attending the Simple Minds gig which is part of the month long Marbella Starlite Festival.  It was our first visit to the Starlite Festival and the Marbella Auditorium, a dramatic old Quarry site, dug into the side of the La Concha Mountain above Marbella. And what a well organised event the Starlite Festival is, from before arrival to departure everything seemed to run with 'Swiss' precision. Pre arrival the signposting from the A7 was superb, guiding us easily through Nagueles up to the car park.  Here you smoothly pass through ticketing and take a smart air conditioned bus up to the auditorium.  With minimal waiting times for the coaches before and after the event.

The Auditorium is a stunning venue for the festival, with the dramaticMarbella Starlite Festival Concerts rugged stony quarry walls towering all around you, yet you would be hard pressed to realise you were standing on a quarry floor.  The ambience and drama of the Starlite Lounge area give a feeling of great quality.  The huge under lit dance floor, surrounded by food and drinks outlets, and softly lit chill out furniture is superb.  The Starlite Family Club overlooks the Lounge Area, and the white covered back of the grandstand seating forms another side, with its huge white backing forming a gigantic screen for the projection of imagery in the lounge area.  A mass of palm trees and low lit furniture make this a great area, pre and post show, and for entertainment on those nights where there are no concerts taking place.

Marbella Summer ConcertsOn nights like this, with a drink in one hand, great food in the other, a warm breeze blowing through the fronds of the palm trees above and cool music playing in the background you realise just how luck you are to be in a place like Marbella, with a climate which allows great events like this to take place every night in the summer months.

Another of the great attractions bought to the festival this year was the catering by no less than El Bulli Catering, by Paco Roncero. The food was superb, and another of life's great experiences ticked off the list!

Onto the main event, and guests took their seats just before 10:00pm, at about which time Simple Minds took to the stage, and entertained the crown for almost 2 hours.  Jim Kerr and his band were superb, and had the crowd up on their feet, as they played a great selection of their music including world famous songs like Don't You (Forget About Me), Waterfront, Sanctify yourself, Let there be love and Alive and Kicking.  They rounded off the night with a great encore, adding several more of their hits to the show, ending their set at about midnight with a rousing rendition of Gloria, sang with the crowd, as were many of the songs. Simple Minds Marbella Concert

But here in Marbella at midnight 'the night is still young', so as the band ended their great 2 hour stint, the performers on the main stage area in the Starlite Lounge were preparing to come on and entertain the crowd, prior to the DJ's kicking off of their nightly show.

As we left the venue, air conditioned shuttle bus was awaiting, and in no time we left the car park, hassle free, after a great evening.

All in all a fantastic opportunity to see a great band up close, in such a stunning setting, with great food.  Highly recommended.  And visitors still have until the 14th August to enjoy more concerts by Raphael (11th), Julio Iglesias (12th) and Estopa (14th), or simply go up and enjoy the setting and take in the great food and enjoy a drink.

I can't wait to see next year's line up too!
